Product Information

With the Technics SL-1200G vinyl turntable, the Technics SL-1210GR is a more affordable version of its iconic record player. Compared to the latest generation (SL-1200 mk5), this deck features a new engine, a heavier chassis to ensure a better seat on the deck and a more precise machined aluminum arm.

The return of a classic

It is a new edition of the renowned Technics SL-1200 vinyl turntable. Built by Matsushita for Technics from 1972, this turntable has quickly become a real reference, especially in the professional world (DJ). Since its launch it has undergone several revisions (mark) and has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this legendary vinyl turntable, the Japanese manufacturer also unveiled a limited edition of 1,200 units: the Technics SL-1200GAEEG. These are distinguished from the standard version by better vibration isolation thanks to four Alphagel feet and a numbered commemorative plaque to the right of the plate.

Chassis and multi-layer tray

It has a chassis designed from two layers of different materials. The first is made of BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) resin and the second one is die-cast aluminum. The assembly contributes to the mass of this plate (11.2 kg in total), token of an exemplary outfit. The top of the vinyl turntable is covered with a 10 mm thick aluminum plate with a brushed finish.

The SL-1210GR is designed from two different layers. The first is in aluminum and the second in rubber. Its total weight is 2.5 kg, which is 0.8 kg more than on the SL-1200 mk5. The inside of the tray is equipped with a rubber band to dampen parasitic vibrations.

Equipped with an ultra-light aluminum arm with a length of 230 mm, this arm adopts an S-shape allowing it to be optimally aligned with the groove of the vinyl discs. This arm adopts a cardan suspension used on the other decks of the mark. This fastening method is characterized by the intersection of the horizontal axis of rotation and the vertical axis of rotation at a single central point, as well as by high-precision bearings thanks to a cut-out housing.

Engine 33, 45 and 78 rpm

The engine of this Technics SL-1210GR has been reworked to improve the performance of the deck and thus meet the requirements of audiophiles. The design of this engine has therefore been carried out with the objective of significantly reducing the vibrations that can be transmitted by the engine to the plate. Thus, in order to meet this requirement, the manufacturer adopts a double-rotor (brushless) motor. This technology reduces bearing load and reduces vibration from engine operation. The latter also does not incorporate an iron core, which gives it high precision and reduces vibrations at low speed. In addition, the speed of the motor is analyzed by a microprocessor-controlled high-precision speed sensor to provide a precise and constant speed of rotation. The axis of rotation is impregnated with oil for the purpose, also there to offer a constant and fluid rotation to the plate.

She is able to play vinyl records 33, 45 and shellac 78 rpm. The speed is selected using the dedicated buttons next to the turntable switch. It is also possible to fine-tune the playback speed of a dedicated potentiometer and a reset button can quickly reset the playback speed.

This Technics SL-1210GR vinyl turntable is similar in appearance to the older generations of the Technics SL-1200 and delivers superior performance thanks to a more massive and neat design.
