Once again, TASCAM revolutionizes the world of portable recorders! The DR-44WL creates its own Wi-Fi network, and a free application can remotely control it without touching it. As the range of Wi-Fi transmission is at the environment 20 meters, this feature allows to place the recorder in areas that otherwise have out of range. Beyond a simple start / stop recording, you can check and adjust the recording levels from any iOS or Android device. All aspects of the recording are accessible via Wi-Fi.

Plus, it is possible to check via Wi-Fi the audio data after recording. Simply connect a headset to your smartphone. Thanks to the tools, flexibility and range superior to those of an infrared remote control - and a reliability similar to that of the wired remote controls - this portable recorder allows a freedom of placement far superior to that of the previous models.

From firmware version 2.0, it is also possible to connect via an existing router or access point. The advantages are: (1) you can use other web services, such as mail or sharing portals, at the same time with your mobile device, and (2) Wi-Fi reach, so the control area, may be larger, depending on the capabilities of your router. On the other hand, a direct connection is ideal when there is no Wi-Fi available.

Note: Verification of audio data via Wi-Fi is effective after recording.

XLR / TRS jack inputs for professional applications:

The combo connectors (XLR / jack) can be used to record the outputs of a PA or external microphones, while maintaining a recording with the built-in microphones - a simultaneous 4-track recording (2 stereo tracks). You can set the recorder to record 4 mono tracks, 1 stereo track and 2 mono tracks, or 2 stereo tracks, depending on your needs. Since the device is equipped with a +48 Volt phantom power supply, you can also use your favorite studio static pickups.

MTR mode, for more serious music production:

The DR-44WL is also a powerful work tool for composers. Selecting the MTR mode turns the DR-44WL into a multitrack recorder, with the ability to add ("overdub") one track at a time. With this feature, approaching that of a dedicated multitrack tape recorder, the user can produce studio-quality music files with a simple DR-44WL. An integrated reverb effect makes it easy to dress up the recordings.

The benefits of Wi-Fi are not limited to recording. Audio files can be transferred via Wi-Fi on smartphones, tablets, computers ... Or sent on SoundCloud, using a dedicated application. SoundCloud is closely related to other social networking services. For example, if a record is shared on FaceBook, it will appear on the user's timeline. By uploading a live recording immediately after the concert, the audience can hear it again on their way home.
