Product Information

When the acclaimed Yamaha DM2000 console appeared on the production scene, it proved that true 24-bit/96 kHz performance, DAW integration, and surround production facilities were what the industry had been waiting for. With the introduction of the 02R96 the same benefits became available to a broader range of engineers and facilities, including project studios for music production. Now the Yamaha DM1000, like the DM2000, is designed especially for commercial post-production, audio for video, and broadcast applications. But extraordinary versatility and configurability mean that the DM1000 is also ideal for a wide range of sound reinforcement applications.

The DM1000 Digital Production Console distills the essence of the DM2000 into a remarkably compact console that delivers the same level of performance and key features. And with the supplied Studio Manager Application software, all mix data is interchangeable between the DM2000, DM1000 and 02R96. These consoles can be linked and cascaded interactively within a multi-room studio, or a tour engineer can do a basic console setup on his laptop computer anywhere, and then simply load the settings into the console at the venue.

Like its predecessor, the DM1000 delivers mixing power and performance that's way ahead of anything else on the market, and it even incorporates newly introduced software features such as 6.1 Surround, User Assignable Layer, and Global Recall Safe. Never has so much mixing power and versatility been available in a compact, rack-mountable console.
With the introduction of Version 2, the DM1000 evolves to an even higher level of refinement.

Precise 24-bit/96-kHz Audio and High-performance Head Amps
Advanced custom DSP-7 LSIs feature 32-bit internal processing (58-bit accumulator) at extremely high speed. Full functionality is provided when mixing all 48 channels at 96 kHz. All analog inputs and outputs - including the 16 microphone/line inputs - employ precision 24-bit A/D and D/A converters for an outstanding 110-dB dynamic range. Top-performance head amplifiers provide precise, uncolored pre-amplification prior to A/D conversion, and optimum circuit configurations and parts for all stages of the design were determined through repeated listening tests by some of the best "ears" in the industry. The DM1000 proudly stands alongside the DM2000 and 02R96 as one of the best-sounding digital production consoles available.

48-input 20-bus Mix Capacity at 96 kHz
Although it is a compact rack-mount size console, the DM1000 offers generous mixing capacity with up to 48 simultaneous inputs. All 48 input channels include four-band parametric EQ, gating, compression/limiting, and up to 453 milliseconds of delay with variable feedback. What's more, all of this functionality is available at 96 kHz. The output section also offers plenty of versatility with 20 buses: 8 mix buses, 8 auxiliary buses, a stereo solo bus, and the main stereo bus. Mix buses 1 through 8 also function as surround buses, and a Bus to Stereo function allows sound-reinforcement type sub-mixing as well as easy downmixing of 6.1, 5.1, or 3-1 surround to stereo. The 8 auxiliary buses can be used as surround effect sends, and there's a "Fix" function that automatically sets the auxiliary buses to nominal (0 dB) level, so they can be used as additional mix buses.

Powerful Channel Functions with Flexible Control and Patching
All 48 input channels feature powerful mixing functions including gate and compressor dynamics processing, input attenuation, four-band parametric EQ with a choice of Type I and Type II algorithms, channel inserts, delay, surround and stereo panning, and phase. With the sole exception of gating the same functions are provided on the 8 mix buses, 8 auxiliary buses, and stereo bus. Easy-access dedicated controllers are provided for routing, surround panning, and EQ. Control data is graphically displayed via the LCD screen, and can be saved in "libraries" for easy recall whenever needed. All inputs, outputs, insert patch points, direct outputs, and effect sends and returns can be freely patched to configure the system as required via graphical on-screen "digital patching" displays: for example, you could patch one input to multiple channels, or assign the signal from one bus to multiple outputs. The encoders associated with each fader can be used to make input patch and direct out settings, and you can save your patch settings as library data for recall when needed.

Versatile Connectivity for a Wide Range of Applications
The DM1000 rear panel provides 16 microphone/line inputs with balanced XLR/TRS jacks that feature top-performance head amplifiers for outstanding audio quality. These inputs also offer individual phantom power switches. In addition to these inputs four XLR-type "omni" inputs can be freely assigned to serve as channel inserts or other functions. All analog inputs and outputs employ precision 24-bit, 96-kHz converters. The analog outputs can be patched to any of 12 "omni" XLR-type outputs. Auxiliary, mix bus, stereo bus, inserts, and monitor outputs can easily be patched and configured to create the idea system for your mixing requirements. AES/EBU format digital stereo input and output as well as coaxial digital stereo input and output provides plenty of digital connectivity. The I/O flexibility and compatibility provided by the DM1000 makes it ideal for music production as well as live sound applications.

Two I/O Expansion Slots for Easy Expansion in a Variety of Formats
Each of two Mini-YGDAI (Yamaha General Digital Audio Interface) expansion card slots support up to 16 additional channels of digital I/O in AES/EBU, ADAT or TASCAM format, as well as a range of other interface cards including double-speed 96 kHz (AES/EBU) digital I/O cards, 96-kHz compatible AD/DA cards, and a range of analog I/O cards. The DM1000 expansion slots also accept various Mini-YGDAI compatible cards available from third parties.
Four Advanced Multi-effect Processors Include Surround Effects

The DM1000's four internal effect processors deliver full functionality and performance even when the console is running at 96 kHz. New effect programs such as multi-band compression and surround-compatible 5.1 reverb and 5.1 modulation* augment the console's processing capabilities, and can be used in a send/return loop or as inserts effects.

* Each surround processor may occupy up to four of the onboard effect processors.

Comprehensive Interface with Touch-sensitive 100-mm Motor Faders
16 faders provide access to the console's 48 input channels in three layers: 1 through 16, 17 through 32, and 33 through 48. Add the stereo master and you have a total of 17 top-quality 100-millimeter touch-sensitive motor faders. The bus and auxiliary faders are provided in another layer, and two "remote" layers are provided for external device control. A Fader Mode key additionally allows the auxiliary send levels to be assigned to the faders. The rotary encoder and switch associated with each fader can be switched to any of three modes via the Encoder Mode key. The encoders can be used for panning or auxiliary send, as well any other function you assign. You could assign input patching or direct out assignments to the encoders to allow fast, efficient setup in your specific work environment.

Scene Memory and Automix Functions for Efficient Workflow
The DM1000 features automix capability with 1/4-frame resolution, allowing full automation of parameters right down to the internal effects. Automix functions can be assigned to the User Defined Keys for easy access. Scene memories allow fade times and recall safe settings to be specified independently for each channel, while recall safe can even be specified at the function level. The supplied DM1000 Editor that runs on the Studio Manager application can be used to manage scene and automix data on your personal computer.

Versatile Pairing and Grouping Functions Enhance Mixing Efficiency
In addition to "horizontal pairing" of adjacent channels, the DM1000 allows "vertical pairing" of channels on different layers so that, for example, you can control up to 16 stereo sources from a single layer. Grouping functions include the familiar fader and mute grouping, as well as sophisticated EQ and dynamics grouping. The latter can be a great advantage when mixing surround sound.

DM1000 Editor Software Supplied
The DM1000 comes supplied with an advanced DM1000 Editor application for Windows or Mac computers. The DM1000 connects to your computer via the TO HOST interface (USB), creating a production environment that goes beyond simple parameter viewers. The Console Window, Selected Channel Module, Surround Editor, Patch Editor, Effect Editor, Timecode Counter Window, and Library Window can be accessed via the computer's expansive color display, and the main mixer functions can be edited offline. Memory management functions allow DM1000 data to be transferred to and from the computer where it can be managed and even shared via LAN or the Internet.
